This past Christmas we received so many thoughtful gifts from our families. I had been talking about how my growing belly had seemed to start to outgrow my clothes, while this is exciting to know the baby is growing, it is a little difficult to accept that your body is changing and expanding. Even though I knew the change would be coming it affected me slightly differently than I anticipated.
My parents and sister had listened to some of my concerns and so for gifts I received some new clothes and some fun pampering items. My brother lives downtown and always tries to get something fun or unique for us to participate in. This year we received tickets for "Friends, The Musical Parody" that we just attended this past weekend. I didn't realize how much I really wanted or needed a fun date-night downtown until it happened.
I got to get dressed up in my new dress, with new make up, and go for dinner and a show. Honestly, I felt amazing and finally "pretty" again. The show was fantastic and the evening was perfect. It really made me think about all of the people who had put thought into what we might need in the future or some of the little things we may be going through. I didn't even know we needed some of this, but I'm so grateful for everything.
Not only did we have a fantastic evening, but our weekend was pretty great as well. I've noticed a growing closeness to both of our families and friends. Everyone is getting to a stage in their lives when so many things seem to be changing and falling into place. We're all growing so close and getting to share in each other's successes and happy next stages of life. We are getting to celebrate job promotions, weddings, and babies. Getting to share stories with each other, get together, or simply talk on the phone for some advice is invaluable.
I'm constantly looking at where I am in life, where I want to be and how I want to get there. Right now my big focus is on developing my family, developing relationships with people who mean the most to me, and continuing to grow a business that makes a difference. At this moment things are going exactly in the direction I hoped for.
Life is all about balance and evolution. As things evolve it's so important roll with it and make sure that you're in the driver seat. Some things I've learned recently that have really helped to keep change and my goals in focus are:
1. Keep those positive people in your life and continue to grow those relationships.
It's so important to identify the amazing people you surround yourself with and continue to develop those relationships. Call each other, text, or email just to stay in touch. Some people you might be in constant contact with and some maybe once in a while. However, it's so important to keep up with what's going on in each other's lives, stay interested, check in, celebrate when something good happens, and be there when something not so great happens. You'll notice a full life when you get to share it with other people.
2. Always ask questions.
I never pretend to be the smartest person in the room, I'm always wanting to learn from someone else. People aren't as different as you may think. Many people go through similar situations, and sharing stories / asking questions is a way to help to grow and learn from each other. One of the greatest harms you can do is shut someone down and pretend you know everything. I can't tell you all the awesome advice I have learned from friends, family, and sometimes complete strangers....let's be honest, I'll pretty much sit down and have a conversation with anyone.
3. Find an outlet.
Whether it be music, a sport, crafting, sewing, construction, etc....it's so important to find something you enjoy doing just for fun, not for work or money, but just for you. Getting to release your energy and put your attention to something you truly enjoy will make you such a more well-rounded person. Focusing on just one task a day, coming home, and going to sleep will make you feel empty. Getting a hobby or an outlet makes you so much more engaged and overall happy.
4. Put yourself together in a way you're comfortable.
If you're a yoga pants and t-shirt kind of person or an on-trend fashionista, express yourself through your clothing and style. I find that when I take a few more minutes to get ready in the morning, do my hair and make up, and pick out a super cute outfit, I feel so much better throughout the day. I feel more confident, more energetic, and more creative. Feeling like you pretty much rock will make you invincible!
5. Favorite products.
So everyone has their favorite products they just can't live without. Mine have definitely changed over the last few months. I wanted to share for all of my moms or soon-to-be moms out there. I feel like I see pregnant women everywhere and there are so many things that help to make the experience a little more enjoyable.
- Yoga - amazing stretches and workouts that will leave you feeling invigorated
- Pregnancy Pillow (this is a must) - my husband is also obsessed, he's pretty much stolen half of the pillow
- Sparkling Water - Sometimes water just gets super boring, spice it up a little
- Stretch Mark Lotion - It really works, start right away before you start showing and your belly will expand without any markings
- Aromatherapy Diffuser - Jason got this for me for Christmas and it's amazing
- Lularoe Leggings - I never wore these until I became pregnant, they are so soft and stretch as you stretch
