The week Maizy was due I finalized and published my first book, "Have Your Cake and Eat It Too." It's a project I had wanted to complete for a little over a year or so, but couldn't seem to find the right words. I can't count the number of times I wrote something, reread and erased to walk away thinking I may just not have something to say after all.
One day while I was in the shower the words just came to me. It was actually after an interview I had done with Teri Healy. Before I knew it, the book and story took on a life of its own. I started by talking about my experience in a school where I had thought I had found my dream job, a job that quickly turned nightmare. I remember feeling so helpless and deflated, like a total failure. I noticed I wasn't sleeping, was gaining weight, started having chest pains and found myself genuinely unhappy.
I knew I had to get out but didn't know what my next step would be. I had always wanted to start a business but was afraid of the risk. My husband and I had goals for our future, and after paying off all debt, I didn't want to set us back. Jason was my biggest supporter, telling me this was the perfect time to make the move and jump in with both feet. That year I resigned, finished up the year, and opened a business. It was one of the best decisions I had ever made for myself and my family.
Through the process of opening my business I found and discovered myself again. I grew in ways I would have never been able to had I stayed where I was. I have met some of the most amazing people throughout the world, many of whom have become friends. I created a new community based on positivity, perseverance, going after what you want, and using each individual's talents to achieve their goals.
In my book, "Have Your Cake and Eat It Too," I talk about:
- The Final Straw
- Have a Plan
- Building a Business Plan
- Learning to Embrace What You Don't Know and Grow
- Finding Yourself Again
- Building a Lifestyle
- The Journey
- April's Words of Wisdom
The goal is to encourage you, no matter where you are in life, to go after what you want, build lasting relationships, embrace your own uniqueness, and live positively and confidently. If you have confidence in who you are and what you want, you can achieve anything!
I, personally, have been going through another re-discovery after becoming a mom. I am learning who I am again, how to balance different parts of my life, run a business, be a stellar mom, develop relationships with other moms and businesses, and embrace this new body.
People are constantly changing and it's super important to evolve with each new stage of your life.
